BOARD HIGHLIGHT

Dr. Ann Lemire.
Dr. Lemire joined the board of Frannie Peabody Center in November of 2003.  Bringing with her a wealth of knowledge regarding HIV disease, she was a natural fit for the organization.  Since 1994, she has cared for adults and children who are homeless or underserved including those with HIV or AIDS.  Dr. Lemire has worked to educate other Frannie Peabody Center board members regarding changes in medications, changes in the management of HIV, as well as the social challenges her patients face.  She speaks with enthusiasm and compassion when discussing issues or trends that negatively affect her patients.  When the board makes decisions that have a direct impact on clients, Dr. Lemire brings a unique perspective to the discussion.

Dr. Lemire currently is the medical director for the Infectious Disease Program in the Public Health Division of the City of Portland.  Additionally, she serves as a faculty advisor for Medicine-Pediatrics residents.  In 2004, she began volunteering at the Justinian Hospital in Cap-Haitien, Haiti as part of the Kobit Sante project.

Dr. Lemire received her Medical Degree from the University of Vermont and completed her residency training in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at Albany Medical Center in Albany, New York.  She is a fellow in the American Academy of Pediatrics and in the American College of Physicians.  She is also an HIV specialist certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine.  Dr. Lemire was the first Internal Medicine-Pediatric Residency Program Director at Maine Medical Center.  Prior to her work at Maine Medical and at the City of Portland, she had an Internal Medicine Pediatric Practice in Windham, Maine.

In the world of HIV/AIDS we've come a long way, but the road before us is long still and no less arduous” -Ann Lemire, MD
