What's New

2007 Bring Light to Life, Summer Solstice event
During its third annual Bring Light to Life, Summer Solstice event, Frannie Peabody Center raised support and heightened awareness for its programs and services, while decreasing stigma around HIV/AIDS. Thanks to our sponsors, Hannaford Supermarkets, Glaxo Smith Kline, and the Phoenix for making the event possible. A special thanks to our volunteers and local businesses- we could not do it without their support!

As the Center grows and diversifies as an organization, awareness and unrestricted funding are critical.  The Solstice provides just that. Thank you to the community for your continued support of Frannie Peabody Center and compassionate care for the community infected with and affected by HIV/AIDS.

New York County Office
In an effort to provide more comprehensive and accessible services to York County Residents, Frannie Peabody Center has relocated its York County office from the previous Landmark Hill location in Kittery to Meadowbrook Plaza in York. The Meadowbrook Office is located at 647 US Route 1, Suite 303, York, ME 03909.

The Center continues to see a growing need for prevention and direct care services in York County. York County residents comprise nearly 30% of the Center's case load and York County is among Maine's highest HIV/AIDS incidence areas. It is anticipated that the Center's move to Meadowbrook will assist in the expansion of existing services with an emphasis on community awareness and accessibility.

Sam
L. Cohen Foundation Awards Frannie Peabody Center with Matching Grant for HAVEN
Sam L. Cohen Foundation recently awarded Frannie Peabody Center with a $10K matching grant for HAVEN, its statewide housing program. The award will be used to establish a multi-year local matching plan for the program.

HAVEN is made possible by funding from HUD's Housing Opportunity for People with AIDS (HOPWA) grants. According to The National AIDS Housing Coalition, “mounting evidence demonstrates the independent significance of housing as a mechanism to improve the health of persons living with HIV and to prevent new infections. Findings presented at the 2006 National Housing and HIV/AIDS Research Summit show strong empirical support for a shift in the HIV risk paradigm, away from a focus on individual behaviors only, to a focus on risky contexts such as homelessness and unstable housing as structural factors that must be addressed in order to effectively prevent and treat HIV .”

In 2006, HAVEN boasted a 95% success rate for participants obtaining or maintaining stable housing.

Maine Community Foundation Awards Frannie Peabody Center with a 2007 Community Building Grant
Maine Community Foundation awarded Frannie Peabody Center a $6,000 award in support of its 2008-2013 strategic planning process. These funds will allow the Center to utilize professional guidance through the planning process.
